Ralph, the dog, was in such a sorry state when rescue workers found him that they debated whether or not it would be more humane to just let him go. Instead, neither they nor the dog gave up, which was a really good sign.
Dog rescue isn’t for people who are easily discouraged. Every day, dogs like Ralph are discovered abandoned on the sides of roads, thrown out of automobiles in the middle of the country, and the ones that are lucky enough to be dumped at shelters so that they do not starve to death over time.

Ralph’s predicament was one of those that were particularly distressing, and he was one of the dogs in this category. Seeing Ralph in such a deplorable state is both distressing and unpleasant. He was little more than a skeleton in skin. For those who have a soft spot in their hearts for canines, it’s hard to understand how he could have been ignored for so long. Even though the odds were stacked against him, his group of veterinarians and the rescue organization knew how to properly care for him.
Unbelievably, Ralph not only held on to life, but he also managed to thrive. His desire to live was stronger than the pull of death, and as a result, he triumphed over all of his health problems and developed into a gorgeous and content canine. Simply by looking at him, you would never imagine that he was once in such a sorry state.
