Indi, a young orphaned kangaroo, refuses to release go of her handler.

At The Kangaroo Shelter in Alice Springs, central Australia, Chris “Brolga” Barns takes care of the little orphaned joey Indi.

Indi, who was saved in June, is shown embracing Mr. Barns and grasping hold of his arms. Because of his work rescuing injured and abandoned kangaroos, Mr. Barns is also known as “Kangaroo Dundee.”

He became aware of the need for a facility to care for injured and orphaned kangaroos while working as a tour guide in the North Territory.
In 2005, the 36-hectare Kangaroo Sanctuary in Alice Springs was built by The Kangaroo Dundee, who saves orphaned kangaroos and typically acts as their surrogate mother.

In 2014, Mr. Barns was again a candidate for Australian of the Year.
