Video captured during a midday safari in India’s Maharashtra state of Tadoba National Park shows a female sloth bear fighting a tiger. When the sloth bear came close to the water hole with her youngster, the two pets started fighting, writes pawmypets.com
The tiger immediately launched an attack when he spotted the bear making its way towards the water, forcing the mother bear to defend her cub. Chief biologist at Bamboo Forest Safari Lodge, Akshay Kumar, said the 15-minute fight was ferocious.
The fight left both animals with wounds. The fight resulted in the cub’s successful escape. Only when the bear cornered the tiger in the water was the battle finally over.
This bear sloth got lucky. Although she appears to be fatigued at the end of the video (which was originally posted on Facebook by the Bamboo Forest Safari Lodge), it’s probable that her thick hair prevented the tiger from snatching her by the neck.
