Speaking in a Monday, August 12 post on his Truth Social social media platform, former President Donald Trump sounded off on Vice President Kamala Harris’s attempt to “steal” his proposal to no longer tax tips that hospitality workers receive, saying that she was trying to con Americans by pushing the policy.
As background, Vice President Harris, pushed the idea when speaking at a rally at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas on the evening of Saturday, August 10. Beginning, she said there was a “wage theft” policy against which she fought as California AG, claiming, “When I was attorney general of California, we worked together to crack down on wage theft. When I was a United States senator, we fought together for paid family leave and medical leave.”
Getting to the tips part, she said, “And earlier this year, right here in Vegas, we celebrated your historic contract win. And it is my promise to everyone here when I am president, we will continue our fight for the working families of America. Including to raise the minimum wage. And eliminate taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers.”
President Trump had introduced the idea much earlier. In June of this year, as a reminder, former President Trump said, while speaking to rallygoers in Las Vegas, “For those hotel workers and people that get tips, you’re going to be very happy, because when I get to office, we are going to not charge taxes on tips. … It’s been a point of contention for years and years and years, and you do a great job of service, you take care of people and I think it’s going to be something that really is deserved.”
In any case, it was for her flip-flopping on the tips issue that former President Donald Trump roasted her on Truth Social. Beginning, he said, “Kamala Harris has flip-flopped on virtually every policy she has supported and lived by for her entire career, from the Border to Tips, and the Fake News Media isn’t reporting it.”
Continuing, former President Trump wrote that she is trying to con the public with the comment about tips, saying, “She sounds more likе Trump than Trump, copying almost everything. She is conning the American public, and will flip right back. I will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! There will be no flipping!!!”
